Our budget-friendly Moroccan tour starts and finishes in Marrakech and provides a fantastic introduction to Morocco’s imperial cities, with busy medinas and amazing historic sites to explore, and great opportunities to try local Moroccan cuisine. We start the Morocco tour by heading to the coastal city of Casablanca, visiting the unique Habous District, the Royal Palace, Mohamed V Square, the Anfa district and the Hassan II Mosque. We also head to Rabat for a tour of the old city including visits to the Royal Palace, Ouadaya Kasbah and the Hassan Tower Mosque. We explore the old imperial city of Meknes with its ramparts, followed by the ruins at the ancient Roman city of Volubilis before we arrive at the 1200-year-old city of Fez. While in Marrakech we explore the iconic Koutoubia Mosque, Bahia palace and the souks around Jemaa El Fna square – home to many different types of traders, giving you a real taste of Moroccan cuisine and culture. We’ll also visit the beautiful Majorelle Gardens before you have a free day to explore further or take an optional tour or activity. Accommodation is in locally rated three to four-star hotels, with upgrades available on request.

Day 1,Arrive into Marrakech. Transfer to hotel

Once you arrive in Marrakech, one of our representatives will welcome you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to settle in, relax after your flight, and have a first look around the city. Day 2,Marrakech to Casablanca and Rabat

Today, we leave Marrakech behind and head to the coastal city of Casablanca where we'll see the Mohammed V square, the unique Habous district, the residential area of Anfa, and the exteriors of the Royal Palace and the Hassan II Mosque. After lunch, we'll continue on to Rabat – Morocco's administrative capital. Day 3,Meknes and Volubolis

Today we head to the Imperial City of Meknes, formerly known as the the capital of Morocco during the reign of Moulay Ismail. While we’re here, we get to wonder through the Jewish Quarter and the Bab Mansour gate. Day 4,Fez, city tour

The city of Fez, over 1000 years old, is a labyrinth of souks, mosques and spice-filled streets. We delve into the fascinating history of the city with a full tour encompassing the Moulay Idrss mausoleum, Nejjarine fountain, Foundouq Nejjarine, the Museum of Wood, the exterior of Karaouine mosque and the Bou Anania Medersa. We also spend time exploring the surrounding the heady alleyways of Medieval Medina - home to tanneries, carpet shops and local restaurants. After lunch in the Medina, we'll head to the Fez Jdid district, which is home to the Jewish Quarter, the Royal Palace, many grand old buildings and gardens. | OVERNIGHT:. 3-star Fez hotel. | MEALS:. Day 5,To Marrakech via the Atlas Mountains and Beni Mellal

We begin our journey to Marrakech, leaving Fez behind. Along the way we'll skirt the foothills of the Atlas Mountains and pass by the Berber village of Immouzer Kandar and the town of Ifrane. In case of bad weather and snow blockages, the itinerary may be adjusted and travel via Khenifra. We'll also stop for lunch and a break in Beni Mellal. We’ll arrive in Marrakech this evening. Day 6,Marrakech city tour & Majorelle Gardens

Today's tour in Marrakech begins with a trip to the iconic Koutoubia Mosque – home to the minaret which has become a symbol of the city. We also visit the Menara Gardens and the Bahia Palace which hosts intricate and beautiful Arabic craftsmanship. After a break for lunch in the Medina, we head to the beautiful Majorelle Garden with its French-influenced architecture and colour schemes, excellent cactus and palm collection, and intriguing history through its connection with the iconic French designer Yves Saint Laurent. While we’re out exploring, we'll also visit the museum at the gardens displaying some of his works of art and Berber heritage collection. Day 7,Marrakech, free day

As we draw closer to the end of our tour, you have the day free to explore – perhaps head back into the centre of Marrakech for some final sightseeing or shopping in the abundance of souqs nearby. Options are also available this morning to try some quad biking or an early morning hot air balloon ride.   • We use good quality hotels rated at the Moroccan 3 and 4-star level on this tour. Local star ratings may vary slightly from international standards and where 4-star hotels are used these can be considered around the 3-star level. Accommodation is based on double or twin en-suite rooms with air conditioning. All couples will have a private double room. Single travellers may choose to pay a single room supplement to guarantee themselves a single room throughout the tour. Alternatively, they may choose to share a twin room with another traveller of the same sex. If there are no other single travellers available to pair up with at the time of your booking, then we will add the single supplement to the tour price, but will refund this or deduct it from your balance payment if we are able to pair you up later on.

Guide

  • In Morocco we provide qualified, local English-speaking guides for the sightseeing tours plus an English speaking driver. A multilingual escort guide will be provided for groups of 8 or more. Please note that whilst guiding will be provided in English, guides may also speak other languages (Italian/Spanish) to accommodate guests from other countries.
  • At Encounters Travel we aim to only use local Moroccan guides and reps. We feel this gives you the best experience of the country and the sites you are seeing and many people rate our Moroccan guides as one of the highlights of their tour.

Transport

  • Our trips feature a mix of different transport options. We want you to feel like you’re really experiencing the country you’re travelling through, but at the same time we want you to finish journeys refreshed enough to enjoy the next stage of the tour. The terrain and public transport options in Morocco mean that we use private AC minibuses or coaches throughout this tour, subject to the final size of the group
  • Our Morocco tours include a 24-hour airport meet & assist service in Casablanca/Marrakech airports (depending on the exact itinerary), your arrival and departure airport-hotel transfers and all other transfers.
  • Your airport transfers are only included in our tour prices on the first and last day of the set tour itinerary. We will be happy to arrange transfers on any additional days if you book your hotel room with us. If you make your own arrangements for additional accommodation at either the beginning or the end of the tour then you will need to arrange your own airport transfers on these days.
  • On our Shoestring group tours we do offer optional hotel upgrades. This may mean that additional pick-up and drop-offs are required each day. We do endeavour to ensure that all hotels used are close to each other and to streamline and time arrangements to limit any extra driving time as much as possible.
